The Pollachi Case: A True-Crime Chronicle

Chapter 1 – The Town of Pollachi

Pollachi.
A name that once evoked images of coconut groves, gentle winds, green paddy fields, and a quiet Tamil heartland town. Nestled in the Coimbatore district of Tamil Nadu, Pollachi was often celebrated as the “Coconut Capital of Tamil Nadu.” For decades, it was a peaceful town where life moved slowly—farmers worked their fields, families ran small shops, children cycled along village paths, and the community was bound together by tradition.

But in 2019, that image shattered.

Pollachi would be remembered not for its beauty, but for a crime ring of shocking scale and cruelty—a network of young men who exploited trust, technology, and the silence of society to prey upon women.

The story began not in the bustling markets or busy main roads, but in the hidden corners of social media—Facebook chats, WhatsApp groups, and Instagram messages.

Chapter 2 – The Hunters and Their Method

The men at the center of the case were Thirunavukkarasu, Satish, Vasanthkumar, and Subash. To the outside world, they appeared ordinary—youth from Pollachi, hanging out together, riding motorbikes, talking loudly in tea stalls, and posting flashy pictures online.

But behind that ordinary façade was a sinister pattern.

The Trap

  1. Online Friendship:
They searched for women—often college students—on social media. A friend request would arrive, followed by flattering comments and gentle conversations.

  2. Building Trust:
Once a woman responded, they would slowly gain her trust. Messages would turn into calls, calls into video chats, and eventually, requests to meet in person.

  3. The Meeting Spot:
The meetings rarely happened in public. They chose secluded roads, lonely fields, or parked cars on quiet highways.

  4. The Assault and Recording:
The encounters turned violent. Women were assaulted inside cars or isolated spots. And crucially, videos of the acts were secretly recorded on mobile phones.

  5. The Blackmail:
Once the videos existed, the women were trapped. The men would threaten:
“If you speak out, we will send this video to your parents, to your college, to everyone you know.”

The shame and fear of social stigma silenced many victims.

Chapter 3 – The First Spark of Resistance

For years, the gang operated in silence.
Victims endured silently, unable to speak to parents, friends, or police.

But in February 2019, one young woman—just 19 years old, a college student—broke that silence.

The Incident

She had trusted one of the men enough to meet him. But when she did, she found herself dragged into a car with multiple men inside.

  • She was assaulted.

  • She was filmed against her will.

  • She was threatened with exposure.

Shaken to her core, she returned home carrying a nightmare inside her.

For days, she battled herself—should she stay silent and protect her family’s honor, or should she fight back?

It was not an easy decision. In India, and especially in conservative towns, the burden of “shame” often falls on the victim, not the perpetrator. Speaking up meant not just legal battles, but whispers, judgments, and endless questions.

But courage won.

The Police Complaint

The girl and her family approached the Pollachi police.
Her statement revealed not just a single assault but the possibility of a larger network.

The police moved quickly—perhaps because the crime was too brutal to be ignored, perhaps because the girl’s testimony was too strong.

The four accused—Thirunavukkarasu, Satish, Vasanthkumar, and Subash—were arrested.

But as soon as their phones were checked, a horrifying discovery was made:

  • Multiple video clips of different women.

  • Evidence suggesting this was not an isolated act but a pattern repeated many times.

The nightmare was bigger than anyone had imagined.

Chapter 4 – The Shocking Scale

Word spread quickly. In Pollachi’s tea shops, markets, and college campuses, the whispers grew louder:

  • “There are more girls.”

  • “The videos… they found many videos.”

Investigators began suspecting that the gang had exploited dozens of women—possibly more than 50, even close to 100.

Some of the victims were college students.
Some were working women.
Some were reportedly underage.

The town was shaken. Families who once let their daughters ride bicycles freely to tuition classes now looked over their shoulders in fear. Parents deleted their daughters’ Facebook accounts. Women walked in silence, aware of the eyes of strangers who might be wondering, “Was she one of them?”

The scale of the crime was not just about the number of victims—it was about how deeply it had pierced the trust of an entire community.
